i3 deliveries have already begun in Europe, while U.S. sales will begin in March.

About as exciting as a new vacuum cleaner.

I'll wait for Tesla to get into this segment.

I had the chance to test drive one of these a few weeks ago. Neat little car but it didn't feel like a BMW. Interior felt/looked a bit cheap and I couldn't get over the bicycle wheels it was sporting. Not an "ultimate driving machine" by any means. On the plus side, the new I drive system it had was great. Huge display and very intuitive.

I had a surprising pleasant experience in the i3. It had decent pickup and I didn't find the interior to be horrible; it was quite a bit spacious despite its size and while it didn't feel like the "ultimate driving machine" that's also not its mission at all.

Peppy yes and handled decent. Just not fond of the "corrugated weed" door panels. Still a BMW product and their own mission statement is to build the ultimate driving machine.

I think they'd of had more success taking a mini and started electrifying from there. At least it would have had a great platform to build from.

Also, note on the US pricing sheet that ED is "N/A".

I'm disappointed about this.

Europe uses a different charging plug than the USA. So, while an adapter MIGHT be available, that's not certain. Add that to the limited range most people would find the experience a bit less than ideal since they typically would like to drive further than the vehicle can go...IOW, most tourists don't travel to, and stay in one city, and the distances between them may not be easily within range, at least if you wanted to stop and see something along the way.

Opt for the range extender, and it becomes a bit more plausible, but still would have the issue with the plug.

Its for those reasons the BMWi cars will not be offered European delivery.

Another reason the I may not be available for ED, while not positive about this, I do not think the telemetrics used on the European vehicles is the same as that used in the USA. While the NAV would work, it wouldn't have the ability to download and provide location and status about the available charging points, which, on the I, would be a big issue. I do not remember that worked on my vehicle when I picked it up - I didn't try to display traffic status, and obviously, didn't have to look for charging stations, nor did I need to use the emergency call feature. While it might be possible for them to swap the module, I doubt they'd do that for ED vehicles.

What fun would ED be with 80 miles of range? You couldn't even get to Salzburg or Stuttgart without intermediate charging stops and you'd be limited to 93 mph. Rent a Fiesta and have more fun.

Don't get me wrong, I like the i3 and am considering one, but why ED it unless you just want to drive around Munich a lot?
