There can be a couple second delay when shifting modes, during that time brake regeneration resets as well so if you are doing it as you coast to a stop, for example at a stop light, it will feel like you completely lost brakes and you have to push harder to get into the actual brakes, at which point the regen kicks back in and you're way deeper than you need to be in the pedal at that point and the car jerks to a halt. It also cuts power when you do it for a fraction of a second and if you're doing anything but coasting it can be disconcerting...

so yes, it is a concern and would be a lot better if you just had to hold the "+" paddle for a couple seconds to shift back to "auto" sport.
