I live in a dry environment and if that belt goes, it shreds and may damage the crank pulley or the alternator/starter/torque equalizer mounted on the ICE. If you lose that belt, there is no way to start the ICE. The i8 doesn't have a traditional starter on only uses the electric motor on the engine.

I checked my belt and it looks new. But then again my car only has 20K miles
