I took my first iX to a third party place, and supposedly they used OEM glass, but the HUD was always a tiny bit fuzzy after that, and I thought about arguing to have them recalibrate the HUD after a week, but then someone wrecked that car, rendering the point moot.

I got the glass replaced once on my second iX using that warranty at the dealer, and it was a seamless experience. They gave me another iX for a loaner, and the job was perfect.

In any case, with vehicles as complicated as these, I'm always going to opt to have the dealer do repairs.
I talked to my service manager about it. The local BMW shop uses safelite too - they don’t actually replace windshields themselves. He also said safelite is fine, they never have problems and there are no issues with lease turn in.

Also, in my state $100 or $0 deductible glass coverage is a mandated offering by insurance companies, and it’s a few bucks per year. So most people have it. To me, it’s not worth paying for some other plan when my deductible is $0. I get avoiding hassle though.
