This is because the suspension tries to level the ride height, and not disabling it can (potentially) cause problems when manipulating the tires. It's almost a certainty that Discount Tires didn't do this. Just a potential problem, because resetting the TPMS should resolve and the suspension system is re-activated when driving the car, but it could theoretically cause a problem. As an aside, and always a personal choice like changing your oil earlier than the recommended intervals, BMW hasn't recommended tire rotations on any of its xDrive models for a number of years, for a number of reasons - at the least, it probably doesn't save any money and it (temporarily) affects handling.

Air suspension disable doesn’t matter. I’ve never had my tire shop do it and I’ve swapped wheels like 25 times during ownership (winter set and daily set). I have them mark on the tires the original position so I don’t rotate when I don’t need it.
You really need to only rotate once during the life of each set. I would run from new until tears are around 50-60% and then cross rotate. Unless you have some irregular wear, I find that the iX50 wears L/R pretty evenly without any significant camber wear issues and will wear rears about 1.5-1.8x the fronts.
For TPMS issue I had that before. Just have your tire shop reprogram the sensors. They should either do it for free or max $15-20 per wheel. Takes 5-10 min. I’ve run 2 new sets of aftermarket TPMS’s and watched them do it. It’s not hard, and shouldn’t be expensive. You don’t need to go to BMW dealer to do this.
