PSA: Don't leave your Diagnostic cable (ENET/DCAN) on your steering column.

Had a situation last year that sent a car onto a median while making a u-turn. Had a ENET hanging on the column when I left the shop, made 2 left hand turns, then went to take a left u-turn with intent to WOT out of the turn, instead the wheel remained locked because the cable slipped between the column cover and the back of the steering wheel. Never having to experience a situation like this caused me to naturally panic as I tried to steere away from the median, as a result delayed my ability to apply the brakes sooner. Slapped the car into the curb right past a tree amd got stopped by the dirt / bushes. A really crazy experience and one of my biggest lessons after 15 years of diving.

I spoke about it with some people briefly after the fact but never a topic I crossed paths with since, until today I noticed a kid on IG driving with his ENET cable around his colum on his G30, so felt like it wouldn’t hurt to post this. It’s a situation that can get so ugly depending on the scenario, especially with the way these cars are being driven these days, hope it saves someone’s life or at least their day.
