I would say dentists are doctors. They specialize. Podiatrists are doctors. They can do below ankle surgery. Most of their teaching is the same as any MD. PsyD.... ehhh.... Chiropractor....nah.....PT....no.....Pharmacist... .no......

Nurses are smart, but not doctors. They know cause and effect but not the reasons.

A lot has to do with insurance companies pushing it so they can limit the # of people you see before winding up at your final specialist. Such as with physical therapists.
