I've just replaced my tyres today after 15,000km (a little less than 10,000 miles) and 6mm confirmed.
I decided to go reference tyres since, if I need to do any warranty work and I don't have standard tyres, then I could hear BMW saying: "Well, of course the air compressor failed. Your tyres aren't standard."
Still, given my annual km turnover, they should last me 3-4 years.
