Decided to go with La Sportiva Trango Tech GTX boots for an Alps trip later this year. Crampon compatibility was a factor in the decision. I have been putting walking miles on the boots to break them in and so far so good.
Decided on a Deuter Trail 30 pack, it is good quality and big enough for two all day hikes with an overnight in a cabin.
