The only possibility of it to me lay with a test by one of the most prolific and important inventors in history. He purported to successfully test a death ray and fired a beam from his laboratory in the US to Russia.
Think about this for a second...either the beam passed through the earth's surface and exited or it curved to match the earth's curvature. However we know based on current published physics information that both possibilities are impossible. That only leaves a third...the earth is flat and the beam traveled a linear path to the target.
