The dinosaurs didn't get that "driver's car" isn't enough anymore. Cars are required to support fleet emission numbers, safety for less and less experienced drivers as driving becomes less important in the current generations, etc., etc. In this over determined system of requirement, every single dimension will always feel not completely optimized. Once you build a "driver's car" you needed to violate safety, price, emissions, ... Haters typically didn't get that they missed how the world got more complex and their intellect didn't keep up.
