Rosberg won that championship due to Lewis car reliability issues. He had the big DNF while leading in Malaysia like you said, otherwise he would have ended the season with 5 straight wins and the championship. Also had multiple races where his car failed in quali. Mercedes also inexplicably swapped Lewis's entire crew to Nico's side of the garage before the season. No one still has an explanation for this move.
