Well, looks like not just some people in the forum don't get what the i8 is about but also some in BMW marketing.
The new i8 and Roadster is not even two years old and I wouldn't want one of the old i8s even for a third of the price. The battery was much to small, more a HEV with an accidental socket for power than a real PHEV.
The 330e is a very good car but so different from the i8. The i8 is a category of one and that makes it special. Good things: You don't have to buy that design and you don't have to buy it at all. But if you get the car and want one I would not wait too long.
