Greetings my UKM5 and MBelgium friends!
My thoughts on attempting to better equalize the grid times....

We would never consider directing ManU to play a football game with one less player between the white lines.

We would never consider directing the Seattle Seahawks to play a football game with one less player between the white lines.

We would never consider directing Usain Bolt to move his starting blocks back 10 meters.

While the FIA has implemented weight additions to some racing series to attempt to create a more equal performance profile among all teams, I do not believe this promotes rewarding the teams that have collectively maximized vehicle performance.

Teams will always attempt to find a way to exceed the limits of regulations. It is the sanctioning body's responsibility to be smarter than the students and ensure compliance.

I'll never forget when way back in the day, a certain NASCAR team was consistently in the winner's circle....the sanctioning body looked deeper and found the car had illegal roll cage wall thickness of the tubing used to construct it, thus saving weight located at the highest elevation of the car, radically changing the center of gravity (CG) and increasing it's tire adhesion and cornering speeds.

Today's mega-complexities regarding software and the increasingly technical nature of the PU in an F1 machine does create a different cup-of-tea....but the sanctioning body must create an equal playing field.

If the sanctioning body is actually allowing, or favoring certain teams, this is unacceptable, of course. When we see the FIA announce that an "understanding" with Ferrari's engine modes has been reached but it is not made public, this changes everything and needs scrutiny.
