I quit by gradually moving back the time in the day that I would have my first cigarette. Instead of 8am, I would have the first at 9... then later 10, 11, etc., then after lunch, and so on... it was a somewhat slow process but it worked for me... hardest to quit was after supper, especially after a couple of beers, but eventually I had no desire to smoke.
