Unfortunately I had this happen to me a few months ago. Safelite wanted about $1600 to do it with an aftermarket windshield and said it’d take them about 8 hours with 2 techs on it, but they also requested that I go to a dealer afterwards to recalibrate the windshield camera.
I wasn’t keen having to make two appointments for a windshield, so I called BMW to ask how much they wanted for it. They quoted $4500 and also said it would take them the whole day to do it. I found it ridiculous but I decided to pitch it to my insurance anyway, and somehow I convinced them to cover it through the dealer (only $100 deductible on my end).
