I find this a bit unfair. Sometimes you have to say goodbye because keeping an animal alive isn't always the best thing for them. I know people that have spent thousands on their very very old dogs just so they can still lie around deaf/blind and shitting themselves. At that point it is more for the owners than the dog/animal IMO.
