Well I don't always identify my agency either. I'll simply say, "
Sheriff's Department." Generally speaking, people know which agency patrols their area and what their uniformed personnel look like. I would not recommend answering the door with a gun in your hand if it's law enforcement. I would also avoid it even if it's not law enforcement unless you want a brandishing charge; if you point it at someone and it's not in self-defense, that's assault with a deadly weapon with a firearm.
