Well, it's been a fun couple of days.

My father-in-law and I were doing a wall to the basement media room. The amount of whining coming from me about the cost of electricity and the amount of work the hubby wants to put in the heating of his study and tv room was mildly excessive. I know, I'm such a great wife.

Well, we were moving around shit and apparently we had missed a tiny stove from a corner of the ugly as fuck fireplace. Since I was at that point trying to avoid installing a floor heating system to the basement which is a new low even for my cheap ass, it had to be tested. Even better, finns now do a black Friday apparently too, so I bought a fan to spread the heat for 50 bucks.

It worked, it worked really well, for about 30 minutes and three google searches and I decided the stove didn't have the capacity for this place. Ambiance is a new word added to my vocabulary. Anyway, I started to Google cast iron wood burners I could install to the basement. The idea was that one of those would be on when someone wants to spend time here, otherwise a basic radiators would keep the space warm enough.

The fireplace is so ugly the only way to take a pic of it is a milk glass filled with white wine in frame and even then all you get is stuff as a view.

Anyway (I fucking hate this new habit of starting every paragraph with that!) I started to look for tiny wood burning stoves and fire places I could install after I took down the ugly during the night cuz my dear spouse can't take any more direct hits with my personality. With personality I mean that I can pretty much change any solid plan in six seconds just because.

I found three stoves/ iron fireplaces I liked. We are talking big, huge money here, the cheapest was 300 bucks, the most expensive was 1.5k. I had the whole speech ready for the morning how the ole ugly just fell on my lap while he was sleeping. I had the sledgehammer out and my old faithful clock said it was the optimal time of midnight to start but I started to feel sorry for the old ugly. Nobody has a fireplace that big and ugly, the least I can do is to try to make it useful!

This morning I went to the hardware store, and bought a new tiny stove for the hidden corner, I even paid extra to get a glass in front of it so i would spend the maximum time sitting in front of it always. The funny thing is, that the tiny thing burns so hot that we are experiencing a heatwave in our home now.

The hubby has spent his day filling up the Grand canyon of our basement and sweating like a madman thanks to that tiny thing. The whole space is 50m2 And it's hot here!

Anyway, since I found a fireplace I absolutely loved last night, letting it go was hard. I love the idea of a cast iron heating thingy, it's so instant and if you get one from bricks it'll take months. Then on a milk break I decided I won't need a wood burning oven because I absolutely need to have a tiny, cute one for a few years.

The reaction from the lovely family was instant "mom, wtf?" but I went all trump and claimed security as a reason to need one! The longest time I've been without electricity in my life has been less than an hour so we must secure a heat source THIS DAMN WEEK so we won't freeze to death during the winter.

Anyway, now I'm a proud owner of a fireplace for our new side that will cost installed 700 dollars instead of 7k I originally wanted. My spouse and kids have mastered their wtf faces since none of us saw this coming. The most expensive one I liked that I would've put to the basement living room was completely wrong for the dining room naturally.

This is why I could never design anything for a living. I'm too fast and I hate being stuck on an idea enough that I rather make it happen somewhere and move on.

I do feel sorry for skipping an epic fireplace but since I'm the only one who uses them in my family, spending money on them makes me feel weird.

Anyway guys, thank your lucky stars your spouses aren't like me. They might spend that same amount of money on shoes but you won't be needed to haul those around I hope!
