I don't have an expensive rig but IMHO it's never going to be nowhere near the real thing. You don't have the g forces acting on you during cornering, braking, accelerating. The screen is just 2-dimensional so depth is hard to judge.
Buy a Miata and go to your local track and try, the real thing is so much more fun. With that said, it's convenient to be able to get your racing fix at home for just a few hours per day.
it's also a fraction of the cost. even a high end full computer rig is like 1/10th the price of a track day.
