The track is smoother than what it was in '19. Wish they would have done a full repave but they got most of the major problem areas fixed with the partial. Hopefully some grinding will help fix some of the other areas that weren't addressed. Another problem now that the partial repave created though was varying grip levels between the old and new asphalt sections. Definitely changes in grip at the transitions - especially apparent in the wet. Some of the Moto GP guys were touching on this as well.

COTA is always going to have an issue with bumps - it is built on some of the absolute worst ground that you could have to sustain a smooth surface. Despite the massive amount of dirtwork they did originally building the track it's still at the mercy of how much the ground shrinks & swells out there. There is only so much you can do with the natural ground they built off of - eventually bumps will make their way to the surface.

Also going to be interesting to see how much grip the track has at the start of the weekend. Had some big rains (again) last week - likely going to be starting off with a pretty green track.

And it's looking like it might be on the warmer side this year - mid 80's. Advantage RB maybe?

Absolutely love USGP weekend every year. Take my kids on Friday to watch practice and then me and the wife spend the rest of the weekend there. Have a turn 13 suite - can see 12 through 15 out the front and the S's out the back. Austin is a great town to visit too.

Safe travels to all coming in this weekend!
