Parking for a long time unplugged isn't going to kill your charger, but it could potentially destroy your battery and would almost definitely not be covered under battery warranty.
I think your issue and the email are unrelated beyond the fact that even if you had been plugged in, you would have eventually got the low battery warning since your charger isn't working.
