If you own an i8, you know there are only two types of strut/shock boots: Those that are ripped and those that are going to rip...
Instead of having your entire suspension removed for over a thousand dollars to fix a $7 boot, I decided to use motocross dust boots that velcro on. These are
Acerbis motorcycle shock covers that fit underneath the coils. They are a durable rubber material (carbon look only) with a velcro enclosure. I cut them in half for the front and 3/4 for the rear. They fit very well and were an easy $50 fix (I had to order 2 sets of 2). I used a zip tie to ensure they don't slide down and turned the velcro to face the inside of the car for esthetics. Keep in mind that these aren't supposed to be watertight so don't zip the bottoms. The intent is to keep road debris from chipping or marring the piston rod which would then wear out the seals.
Good luck!
