These also work well in a pinch. There are different sizes and will tell you the weight they hold.
Just had a chat with my brother in FL who does this stuff all the time. He suggested I find a nice piece of 3/4" plywood (which I have plenty of) and use that as a base for the mount. Easier to mount the plywood to the wall securely and then mount the swing arm to that.
Definitely a safe suggestion but it's overkill and ugly. How much does the TV weigh? I expect it is light.
