The first thing I ask people looking for performance options is - "are you getting all of the performance out of the car now?". Surprisingly, the answer is no. The i8 has been tested at 3.7 seconds 0-60. Can you achieve that? How about the BMW stated 0-60 in 4.2 seconds? Where do you want the performance - on the street or on the track? For the street, you have plenty of power and handling to more than exceed "street prudent" driving. On the track - are you able to consistently able to do lap times of 9/10ths?
If you can do all of that, then its time to talk about upgrades. If not, you are simply throwing your money away.
