Although a lot of factors will determine whether you hold body fat or not, including cortisone levels, overall metabolic rate, blood glucose levels, etc., one factor sticks out more than the rest: calories in vs. calories out. If you simply consume less calories than you burn or you consume sufficient calories to maintain your body weight, it is impossible to gain body fat (assuming all other levels are normal). Can't produce more than you take in, simple as that. You can be as active as you want, if you consume more than you burn off, you will store body fat.
