There's been a contest for several years among BMW, Audi and Mercedes Refrigerator Company. BMW keeps winning, although Audi has narrowed the gap. Mercedes' refrigerators on wheels dropped from second to third and Audi has pulled away. (I guess people like to
drive their cars rather than refrigerators.)
Because of that contest -- in which BMW counts all of its Mini sales (and probably the Rolls' sales, but that would be a small blip) -- there is an incentive to cheat. Oh, I mean, use every definitional advantage available to mankind. So, I wouldn't doubt BMW would count "dealer delivered" cars as sold, even when they are not in the hands of the ultimate consumer.
But, yeah, it's a slippery business. So who really knows.
