Well you could look at things this way: Aftermarket parts, etc. are likely cheaper in Europe than they would be here because of the fall of the Euro's value and exclusion of VAT.

That, of course, does someone no good in terms of service and warranty/reliability. You're at the mercy of the dealer network in that case:

BMW: 339.
Alfa: 141 (two thirds of which are east of the Mississippi).
