BMW is currently on their 5th generation of electric powertrain. The BMW i3 is one of the EVs with the least battery degradation on the market, and the i3 BEV is probably one of BMW’s most reliable cars in recent year. BMW is also the global leader on PHEVs sales, so I don’t consider them new to the EV game.

The battery and motors will most likely come with a 8 year warranty, so I wouldn’t worry about bother with an extended warranty.
