The tyres come with 8mm+ and if you have 4mm remaining you are 2/3rd through their life assuming min tread 1.6mm.

So if you run them to min then that should see 9000 miles. Not too shabby given how soft they are.

If you want harder tyres fit the non-i8 specific S001s.

I think what's posted above regarding UK temps is applicable. If you're in a hot part of the US then the wear might be worse. I'm in the UK and have been getting ok wear from the 4000 miles I've done in the last 3 months.
