Balance algorithm evaluates how much power you are asking for. When ICE kicks in in Comfort mode, it is adding power; the little electric motor in back also kicks in to smooth out the transition. When cruising on highway the algorithm solution uses both e- and ICE w emphasis on max fuel consumption.
