There is some debate on this. I think the original plan was to keep it till 2024 but seems like based on pressure from competition and the introduction of i4 and iX BMW might've decided to pull the plug in 2022. This is confirmed by @ynguldyn who usually has a good track record and insights into BMW's production plans and schedule. See the original post:
