Yes the Mustang has many different variants, but I don't think the argument of badge slapping really applies to the models you listed.
Regarding the Mustang Mach-E or vehicles like the Edge and Explorer ST, 100% yes, a lot of that is just badge slapping - especially since the Edge ST is very much the same as the previously named Edge Sport.
