I guess they don't want responsibility for them indicating you have enough space when you don't. This is not unlikely, my door usually would be limited by another cars mirror more than the distance to it the sensors see. Those things are much more complex than they look on first glance. That's why we also won't see L5 autonomous cars for unlimited ODDs anytime soon.
