Actually, I was wondering that too (and also in 'garage boxes' and underground parking lots: cars, walls, pillars, etc.). But refueling/recharging seems to happen on the right hand side, so that should be okay for a LHD i8. No idea whether BMW fits the fuel filler/recharger cap on the left hand side for a RHD i8.
The fill point is usually opposite to the driver, but if the driver can't get out of the car...

I guess you always ride with friend in case you need to refuel or get a shorter shifter knob for when you climb over the center console and slip and
