Yes it was. He was under a lot of pressure and likely needed to fire his son (among other assistant coaches), which he clearly didn't want to do. We had a terrible season and recruiting cycle. He wasn't up for making radical changes and graciously stepped aside. He could have held the school hostage for the rest of his contract term. Additionally, early on in his tenure he donated $1M towards and indoor practice facility. I wanted to see him succeed but it wasn't meant to be.
We'll see who we get to replace him. I don't think it will be Butch Davis and would be shocked if they brought in Schiano after the debacle at Tennessee. I'd like to see them try to get Cristobal, another alum and a great recruiter. Someone needs to figure out how to keep more of the local high school talent local to be competitive again.
