Yep, it's well known to avoid the Easter weekend(CarFriday) at the 'Ring. Ths traffic is simular when the 24 Hours of Nurburgring is held at the end of May. At least then, its more of a carnival type event. The fans start shoing up a week in advance to "claim" the best areas around the track to setup camp.

Definitely an adventure! The traffic was so bad, people just got out their cars and started walking around. It felt like every modified car in Germany was there at the same time.
I got in a good 7 laps that Friday and Saturday. (both days track open all day) Very fun and want to go back again! It is unlike any track I've driven before.
