Predicted mileage is based on an algorithm that senses recent usage. After a few real world miles the prediction for the remaining electricity comes closer to the reality of your current driving.

As an example, I live on the foothills and a street 100 yards from my house goes up to the top of the mountain, 5 miles away (and up a steep grade). If I use the gas engine to climb the mountain and then coast down in electric mode I can get the indicated range for electric power up into the high 20s. When I start driving in the foothills the expected range snaps back to normal after a few miles.

So, rather than look at how much range you're losing, find out how much range you actually have. If you have at least 15 miles of range in electric only, without a lot of steep hills, then your battery is normal.
