Not anywhere near reality from my decades of experience. Unless he's a pawn broker and is buying watches at 1/2 price. Otherwise, you're not going to make much money after standard maintenance and wearing them. The only real "appreciation" from buying anything expensive is the personal enjoyment from owning and using/wearing/driving it.
