That was my thinking. Obviously, we can fit larger wheels and tires on the i8. However, there is a point where you are disrupting the airflow around the car.
The aerodynamicists designed an air curtain that flows down the side of the car, which essentially seals off the wheels. When you fit larger wheels, you break that seal and hurt the aerodynamic advantage that the i8 has.
Let's face it, it's the aerodynamics of the car that makes it great. It certainly isn't the horsepower.
So, even though I prefer the looks of wider tires and wheels, I'll just go with BMW's recommendations on this one.
