Still with the dealer? In Europe the answer would have been yes because of the Type 2 (up to 3 phase, only one used in the i8) standard. All EVs need to have that socket. In the US it's a 1 Phase socket, no idea if it is the same. If it physically fits you are fine, the car controls the charging power, etc. If the port lights go blue you are in business.
