Last I heard there were over 20,000 with deposits on the car and Porsche said that they would increase their annual production (from 20K to 40K) to meet the demand. It appears they are trying to satisfy all deposit holders within the first year of production. I can live with that. (I actually savor the wait for my cars - I've waited over a year each for my last three and NEVER buy off the lot...)

But, I get the "first run worries"... There could be value in waiting. I have been happy with my first year i8 Roadster though!

The other question is WHEN to pull the trigger on a deposit. I've heard that the high output "Turbo S" variant of the Taycan will be delayed (maybe 6 months) after the two initial models being released. So being a couple people back in the queue at a dealership might actually provide more model options. (I might even wait a couple of months anyway if necessary).
