I'd actually say it's the opposite of that, a WRX/STI with it's short ratios and turbo AWD gives you good acceleration down low, where most people are driving "on the street". It's more gutless at the higher speeds, where it's already suffering from more driveline drag than other cars and down on the power comparatively.
