It's only a matter of time.
Within the decade I think there will be a year where most new vehicles sold will have some hybrid technology. Another 10 years after before ICE is used only for heavy-duty trucks and maybe sportscars.
The Air Force tested synthetic jet fuel a decade ago IIRC. Don't know how that experiment turned out.
