I can speak with some authority on the subject

I have owned an i8 for 8 years and have done 91k miles in it. I have a 2017 NSX and have done 27k miles. Both were bought with around 1,500 on the clock

At no time when driving the i8 on the road have I ever thought that I miss the greater power of the NSX

Whilst the NSX is better, there is just one service centre in London, which following my relocation to the North East is very inconvenient. Also, any repairs require the car to be taken to London. Parts such as the new headlight come in at £2,700 including fitting - it is a halo car for Honda and the price of the parts is a reminder that they sell the car at a thumping loss - 4 cars sold in the UK in 2021. Yet they fail to promote the car, so rather defeating the object of making it a halo car

To be brutal to own an NSX you have to be braced for repairs costing £10k to £20k - a gearbox I believe is around £30k - when I was young I drove cars I could not really afford and it is stressful worrying about such costs and it blunts your enjoyment

I really enjoy the i8 and did 1,100 miles in the last week on the motorway, having done so many miles in it I am totally familiar with everything and I find it so easy to drive ( heads up display on the i8 should be obligatory for all cars - so easy to control your speed) - like a comfortable pair of old shoes

I would add that to date the only fault has been the petrol cap failed to open

Keeping them as investments - I really don't believe such cars will be classics worthy of investment status - where the inconvenience of getting fuel for years to come, the complexity of servicing and finding specialist parts and the change in culture where throwing out carbon emissions will be seen as something to be ashamed of
