BTW my teenage son drives a stickshift E46, his pick. Just because BMW puts it out there, doesn't mean young people will automatically like it. Will future buyers be conditioned to like this design? Who knows.
You absolutely can make bold design work and not be awkward.

It says 80 to 90% of this design will be in the production car. I guarantee you that the awkward looking parts such as the funky front lights and the crazy roof will not be carried over in their current shape. The light stripes around the grille will hopefully be gone, too.
