They showed the last generation Golf R SportWagen at a US auto show (IIRC it was New York) prior to its launch, and I believe they had tentatively planned to bring it over in small numbers. But then the diesel scandal hit and killed that as well as other low priority model launches.
Unfortunately, with VW axing all wagons in the US, there is no hope for the new Golf R SportWagen (currently in testing) to come here.
