New i3 owner on board! Any first hand tips?
My Fiancé and I just recently purchased a 2017 Rex Fluid black with Deka and the tech packages. We knew the exact specs we wanted so our car is coming from Oregon!
Because we paired this lease with the purchase of my M2, we saved about $3,800 off MSRP which to me felt like a good deal. I've read and watched tons of videos about the i3 for the last 2-3 years and am so happy we can finally join the family of i3 owners Curious what some owners first tips and suggestions would be? Pics will come as soon as she arrives next week!

Welcome aboard and congratulations! What I've noticed for myself is that in the beginning I would be looking to charge with 30 miles or 30% charge at the latest. You start relaxing eventually, once you're confident enough to know that the 30% will take you another 20 miles easily.
I would recommend you have someone or yourself 'code' the fuel tank capacity and also when you can turn your REX on/off. It's much safer to be able to turn it on at 10-20%, than having to wait for it to automatically kick in. Enjoy! |

(remove [], else this forum garbles the links). His MY17 fuel tank is unlocked for the full 10L, no need to code that. Other than customizing the car to your liking, consider reading up on a few blogs, and don't forget to install an L2 (240V) charger at home! http://www.i3guide.com/index.php http://bmwi3.blogspot.com/ http://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWi3/ Now stop reading this, and go for a drive! a

Thanks for the info!
could you please PM me the website for the diy coding? I definitely planned on doing some coding to fully control the range extender. we have an electrician coming in the morning to look at installing our level 2 clipper Creek charger. We are beyond excited for the car to arrive! Thanks for the advice!

And just like you I've been interested in an i3 for at least 2 years. Ever since my first test drive in the spring of '15. |

Unfortunately my M2 hasn't arrived yet, I am Picking her up in Germany on May 2nd. The i3 was a bit delayed coming from Oregon so we won't see it until Wednesday. My M2 will be Mineral grey so I must say you pick your colors well for your BMW couple! So far the folks I have talked to always seem quite interested in our chosen car combo, what can I say best of both worlds! I hope you find yourself in an i3 one day! We are beyond excited!

thx. I was in talks with one dealer in Austin about ordering one and he estimated 2 months. And said no European delivery option.
Would have liked to order one in the exact spec I wanted: red BEV, giga, tech, HK and sunroof. The one on the lot at BMW Dallas was close enough (all that plus tera, parking and apple carplay (I'm Android). None of the 6 dealers within 300 miles I checked with about ordering one would go over 4% discount and all offered at least $2k less on my trade. Color was one of the toughest criteria to meet. I definitely didn't want black or gray and only white if it was a really good deal and that's 90% of i3s out there it seems. |

We have recently purchased a 2015 i3 Rex with 19k km. All options.
We are very impressed with the tech compared to the other EV's out there. We are also very excited to make some tweaks to the car to open up access to the Rex. I am looking for some help to get coding started. I Need a list of items to get to start the process ie. Cable, software resources etc... Tx Peter |

I also am looking for a coder in the Seattle area. I could go to Vancouver if someone is game.

I have done coding on my VW's however, the BMW setup is quite different and I expect pretty straight forward once you get into it. I also deal with a tuner close by who may be able to help. |
