Bmw i8 Europe what oil ?

Since the i8's in Europe have a particulate filter it's different than USA

Anyone know what we should use in Europe ?

0w-30 long life 3. Or 5w-30 long life 3 ?

I've got two different PDF manuals - the german and the english version.

The german version recommends:
SAE 0W-20.
SAE 5W-20.
SAE 0W-30.
SAE 5W-30.
SAE 0W-40.
SAE 5W-40.

The english version recommends only a subset:
SAE 0W-20.
SAE 0W-30.

I guess it's best to use one of 0W-20 or 0W-30.

I think the best option is 5w-30 for Europe, it is also the oil viscosity they are using at the dealership for the i8, at least in my country.q

İ also heard only 0w-20 or 0w-30

İ used 5w-30 once and blew my turbo not sure if just a coincidence

But it's so hard to find bmw LL approved 0w-30

Only found liquimoly 4210 so far

Shell helix ultra 0w-30 has Mercedes approval but not sure if it would work

I don't know what to say about the turbo blowing up thing... As I know from people that have tuned bmws and they are pushing them in high rpms range often..they never use 0w-30 (as it is too thin)...they go for 5w-30 or 5w-40. My i8 has stage 1 and always used 5w-30 without any problems...

You might be right, yes 0w-30 is thin and doesn't seem right but I assumed maybe thin is required since it's a hybrid with lots of start stop so oil needs to travel quicker

Are you located in Europe ? Does your car have a petrol particulate filter ?

My car is a 2017 model, one of the last before the LCI, it is a German version, and yes I do live in Europe-Romania.

I am not so worried about the start/stop of the engine, as I let it warm up at least 5 min before driving and another 5-10min of low rpm driving after that, before pushing it. I am driving it in sport mode almost all the time, so the engine is always running…

Also as far as I know the engine in the i8 has a special ceramic kind of coating on the rod bearings to protect them from frequent cold oil starts.

Very hard to find, since I think this is the only bmw that recommends 0w-30 so most are not ll04 approved
