Hi, so help me out. I ordered an i4 M50 in September 2021. Originally dealer said week 24. It keeps getting bumped and we are now week 31, still nothing. Given I ordered nearly a year ago, is this normal?

June 1 pre-order.
Scheduled for week 38 here.

Join the club. M50's are delayed and not ramped. You are not alone.

Same issue here in Norway. Totally "normal". You're not the only one having this issue.

Ordered my i4M50 in October 2021, car built last week in April 2022 and arrived at dealer third week in May. Took delivery on June1st - great car - the range is very impressive. When ordering any new car particularly those built to order, it is important to ensure the dealer has a production slot or allocation. This was one of the key questions I chased my dealer on- without an allocation and production slot then there is no real timescale in which to indicate when you will get the car. This accounts for some of the issues experienced on i4 and particularly the i4M50. BMW underestimated the demand for the M50 and clearly are having problems building them in sufficient quantity to satisfy demand. Consequently, they are scaling back dealer allocations and continually rescheduling to production. Have you seen real screen shots from BMW AG production contr system which verify what you are being told by your dealer?

Now bumped to October/November, I give up. This car was ordered in September 2021!

Mine was ordered in March this year. Target for delivery was December ‘22 but that went out to March ‘23 very quickly. Still at 047 and build likely to be March 2024. Might get it earlier but I’m not holding my breath. Dealer allocation cut to just 4 (from 12) for the year. I think he said their e40 allocation is 20.

BMWs excuse
I ordered 11 Nov 21 and was the 3rd i4 order at my dealership of an allocation of 8. Due August 22…
I have seen 1 & 2 on the roads…
I had status 112 for the week commencing 11th July. But, didn't happen and on the unlucky 13th I checked and I got the dreaded status 105… Now 111 for week commencing 10th October 22…
I'm about to service, MOT, and re-tax warrantee my car for a year. Annoying spending about £1000 on a car I shouldn't have any more. But, at least if my M50 actually arrives I can claim back the unused tax and warrantee.

If figures I came across for BMW’s production rate are true then they are only managing 54 cars a day and are way behind on production plans due to component shortages. No ramp up has happened and that was aiming for 400+ BEV cars per day from Munich.

I can well believe the 24 months as my dealer is still telling me Mar ‘24 for a Mar ‘22 order. Because it’s still at 047 there is zero price or interest rate protection. The original ‘plan’ for delivery was Dec ‘22 but that’s completely gone and they have little confidence in any dates or schedules they get from BMW themselves.

VW are reported to be saying they don’t expect the component shortages to resolve until we’ll into 2024 now.

Critical ‘noble’ gases, helium, neon, argon and xenon are all vital for the production of semiconductors and most of the worlds production comes from Russia (and a bit from Ukraine) where Pootin is deciding to export only to ‘friendly’ countries. Those countries don’t make the semiconductors that cars use so manufacturing rates have fallen off a cliff, or the products have got really really expensive.

Do you mind me asking where you have ordered from?

I put down a deposit in Lancs in May and was told likely March next year which is fine for me as I have a lease going back then. I'd mentioned to the dealer if I had to extend for a few months I'd be ok to do so. Last update from them at the end of June was still on track for a October-December allocation and there mail to me says "we are confident your order will be fulfilled between March-June 2023".

I suppose it comes down to how many allocations each dealer gets but of course production issues will impact that...

I'm in two mind over what to do, maybe start contacting other dealers and putting down refundable res fees and see who gets an allocation first, or switch to another car. I'd read that the etron GT has a comparably low lead time and from the online configurator I really like the look of the Vorsprung edition but that comes with a +£35k cost and after seeing one for the first time on the road this week, it was massive. Seemed bigger than the Taycan I test drove earlier in the year. :/

Baron’s, Bedford.

We handed our leased BMW back about 3 months early as they offered us an extra £4K.

I know they’re trying to help, but like every other dealer, are finding the goal posts are shifting.

Revised the spec on my M50 today and the current estimated delivery is October 2023. That’s for a March 2022 order. Whether or not that date is met is very uncertain and could well still drift out to 2024. You can have an iX in 2 months, or an M4 in 3 weeks or less!

Mine is still showing at week 47, end of October for a car ordered in September 21. Where is the logic in that?

That's mad. 24 month delivery means it will be out of date before it arrives

My Dealer has a number on order, we’re #8 and so far none of their customer M50 orders have been built or delivered. The eDrive 40s that have been built are all sitting at Killingholme awaiting some software safety update or other before they can be released for delivery. A couple have been there for a month now.

Your situation appears normal compared to many others.

I ordered Feb 2022 for delivery Jan 2023, and just two days ago got the message from my dealer that "It appears your new BMW i4 has moved forward according to BMW' systems this afternoon."

So he reccommended that I should lock down my configuration.

My car went scheduled Friday or Saturday.

For referencey car is a June 1, 2021 pre-order.
It's fully loaded. All options except ventilated seats and exterior carbon fiber.
Tanzanite with full tartufo individual leather, carbon fiber trim.

We'll see if I get a VIN this time. I've been pulled back from scheduled for production 5 or 6 times.

Ive got the chassis number/vin allocated, thats a good sign as it should be on the production line, i think!
